Blundering through storms
Friday, April 10, 20153:05 PM

Blundering through storms.
Not literally but still.
I wasn't expecting it to be a walk in the park but definitely am I not prepared for what's coming up next. In the 3 weeks of April that we have in uni before the next placements block,
16th April - Test
20th April - Test
22 April - Group Assignment due
24 April - Test, applications for internship in a certain area finish
30 April - Test
And then intersperse those with gazillion lectures and tutes and workshops and what does that give you? A dead me. LOL. Not literally.
And so I have spent my 1 week midsem break trying to get some studying and note writing down so I don't find myself sinking in a deep never-ending abyss of doom. And also in between those, we have so many self-study topics and readings to do I can't even D:
Do you know how discouraging it is? To finally be able to feel that you've caught up only to realise that you've only just got to the foot of the real mountain you've to climb?
Doesn't really help that no one else in my group for the group assignment has done ANY work at all for it. I can safely say that I've done almost half of the assignment already, myself. And this was meant to be a 5-person group. 1 person is un-contactable even. With all these tests in the way, why wouldn't they want to work on it now?! ARGH. I don't want to end up working on the stupid assignment when we have a test due 2 days after it's due. As much as you guys are busy, I'm busy too, but can't you even bother to reply?!! Some people...
There I was waiting for May and a good holiday when I realised all this crap was going to happen..before May -.- So until May, it's wading in the good ol' waist-deep mud until I reach the other end...
All the uni peeps in sg, jiayou for your exams!!

Good friend
Tuesday, April 7, 20158:55 PM

I have this friend. She constantly makes me question the definition of a good/true friend.
To her, a good friend is someone who would correct you when you're doing something wrong or behaving in a way that would turn people off etc.
But to me, isn't a good friend someone who would accept you for the way you are?
I am very blessed to be able to say I have 2 of these who have been there for me no matter what, even after all these years - and we're not even in the same continent now! But never in the close to 10 years that I've known both of them has any one of them told me I shouldn't say something in a certain way or I shouldn't complain or I should do this this this. These are friends I can feel comfortable with even if we're silent.
But with this other friend, it's different. I feel like she's judging me for the way I talk, for the things that I say and she'll correct me because she thinks that's what a good friend would do. She does have a point but I feel like it doesn't have to be in my face every time we talk. She says she's very blunt and it can come off the wrong way and if I feel there's something she needs to change I can always bring it up to her. That's something she accepts but sometimes I really hate it that something or other will come up in a conversation over the phone. If it's correcting me over a word I say wrong or funny, it's ok, but I don't exactly want to be told how to do things or how to say things because someone else thinks it's not right. Is this really what a true friend should be like?
You know, we're all looking for acceptance in this vast cold world. In the workforce, the one who tells you off are the people who care about you and the people who sit there and do nothing are the ones who will shoot you down later. But do I really need to be corrected on how I said/asked something in a group chat with people I never knew existed? Maybe I'm in a late rebellious stage but I really don't think I need to be told how to behave or how I should do things.
A lot of the times it really gets on my nerves and maybe we're this way because we have a different perception of what a good friend should be like. Both are correct but I think there has to be a balance and a limit for what your friend should and should not interfere with. Is this going too far this time? Yes I think so. I have to admit, I was so very close to flaring up and after the phone call I was actually quite pissed off and I could tell she was too. But you have to have your limits when approaching people.
What's your definition of a good friend?

It's been a long while since I've posted, partly due to the fact that I had nothing really interesting going on with my life, two because I have typed up posts and ended up deleting them.
But it is with great heaviness and emptiness in my heart that I type this post up.
It is rare for Singaporeans to rally together at this magnitude. I think many have said this(or at least on my Facebook..), it is difficult to grieve a man whom I have never met nor personally known. But I can safely say that he is someone who has my respect for what he has done for Singapore.
I was born and raised for most part of my life in a modern, peaceful and prosperous Singapore, all of which wouldn't be possible without his dedication. I grew up in a Singapore where I learnt about his achievements from social studies lessons. How many countries have been able to transform from a third world country to a first world country in the short span of less than 50 years? He led a small fishing port to our dizzying heights of today. I think it's safe to say that it's undeniable what he has helped Singapore to achieve as a nation, as a country. Much has changed in the past 50 years but he stood firm in the ways he believed Singapore should grow and prosper. He had the vision, and the determination to achieve. Not many have the determination, courage and wisdom that he had in leading Singapore. Not many can lead such a small country to the heights we experience today, and for that, thank you Mr Lee. You are an inspiration and a great leader. You have left behind a legacy manifested in the peace and prosperity we often take for granted. Thank you for your unwavering love and dedication to this nation.

"I have no regrets. I have spent my life, so much of it, building up this country. There's nothing more that I need to do. At the end of the day, what have I got? A successful Singapore. What have I given up? My life."

Finally back to reality and the 3 weeks of 'holiday' are over.
I enjoyed my time there, can't say the same for the other people who went but it was a good experience.
Mentally tired from the crap that did unfortunately happen. Enough about that, I don't regret what I said in the fiery post from before, I haven't deleted it, but just reverted it back to a draft because I guess some things are not meant to be announced to the whole world, and also maybe because I do have a conscience in this whole matter after all.

It's back to a mid-semester break for me but this week is not really a holiday. Time to dig out the books, wake up and start studying. So much work to complete it's quite ridiculous. How I survived back then in sec1-3 during the holidays is a mystery to me. My only excuse? Getting old..
The weather has been really really nice and sunny recently, it's finally past the cold winter and it's beautiful spring! The months are seriously flying by and the things I do with my time hmm...not very productive. Was so productive in the past 3 weeks because I was literally stuck without reception or internet and the tv only had reception for 3 channels or so..bored kids make for good productive studying lol. Enough rambling. Out.

Hello world! Day 2 of placements.
WOAH.
I have to say, before comin, I thought it would be quite chill and relaxed because how many people come to the countryside and I was so wrong lol. Day 1 was non-stop from 9-5, with a half hour lunch break. Got back to the accomodation so tired I couldn't be bothered studying. Will have to do something tonight...
It's been good so far, getting used to the dispensing system..working very slowly but..yea less mistakes made so far. Or maybe I made mistakes and I wasn't told :OOO
The town itself I'm in isn't that big, about 10000 people, but the pharmacies here serve about 50000 people in total, including people from other towns. Was quite surprised to see how many people drive quite a far distance here to get their prescriptions filled. Apparently it takes 3 weeks to see a GP here so yea..we've been taking our GPs for granted everyone.
The reception at the accommodation isn't the best..I can't even load some of my chatting apps -.- maybe because I'm on the edge of the town or something. Who knows. Other than that, it's a pretty nice area, I'm pretty happy so far.
Anyway, better quickly finish up my lunch then it's back to tap tap tap on the computer haha. Have a good day (:

Sigh..every update on the incident that I see, my heart still drops.
And this is considering I never knew who she was until this incident.
'Sad' can't even begin to describe this feeling. It's more of disbelief and shock, that this can happen, and has happened. I wasn't like this the first time round, thankfully maybe because no one else was seriously injured, unlike this incident where there are updates on the injured member's conditions.
This incident has really made me more scared of driving now because well, who knows what will happen.

I will be leaving for my rural placement on Sunday for 3 weeks, so will be praying for a safe journey and for me to be a safe driver...
Well, let's just say my track record for driving isn't exactly clean..my parents are entrusting me with the car so I better take good care of it. As I said, I will be going away for 3 weeks to the countryside..where wifi connection is not available, meaning I will only have my phone plan's data and credit to last me the entire time. It's going to be a busy 3 weeks, but I will have fun and hopefully come back a better driver...and parker..

10:47 AM

Not sure how much you are a kpop listener but if you are, pretty sure you've heard of the sad sad tragedy that occurred a few days ago. To be honest, it's kind of thrown me off the tracks and I can't really keep my mind focussed on doing anything. It's just so so sad that it happened this way. I've only ever heard the name of the group and never heard their music or knew the member's names but I think the whole kpop fandom has really come together in the light of this.
To me, she is someone I just "met" through a computer screen but what happened to her is so closely similar to something that happened to 2 distant relatives of mine it's almost personal. Seatbelts may be the most uncomfortable thing ever but really, please wear your seat belts. Every day, young people around the world have passed in a car accident where they didn't have their seat belts on, I'm pretty sure it happens commonly. The seat belts are there for a reason. No matter how much you hate them, they are for your protection. When I was younger and my mum told me to put on my seatbelt if not, in an accident I could be flung out of the car, to be honest I didn't really believe it. How can a person fly out from a car window when the car window is so small? Or how could a person fly out through the back windscreen when the space for the person to manoeuvre is so small? Surely the doors can block the person from flying out? Time and now time again has reminded me that this is possible.
This tragedy is so sad because those girls were just travelling home after a performance. Few hours ago they were dancing and singing around on stage and a few hours later, all this happened. She was so young and they haven't even had to chance to really showcase all that they were. The distant relatives that I mentioned before were mother and son. And the son was even younger than I was. They don't get to grow old, don't get to fulfil their ambitions, don't get to have their own families because all was taken from them at the high of their lives. Despite me not being close to any of them, knowing of anything like this still shatters me. No one should have to pass this way. No one. That's why, please put on your seat belts, even if it's just for a 5 minute ride because you never know what will happen.
Rest in peace and condolences to her family. I can't imagine what her family must be going through now, especially her parents.
For the other 2 members in critical condition, pray that they will recover fully. Regardless of the outcome, what has happened, has happened.
I think everyone's heart is weighed down and hurt by what has happened to such a young girl who was just beginning to realise her dream. We can never predict what will happen in the future, even if it's the next minute. You never know when your last breath will be, it could be the next minute, or even second. Take care everyone, wear your seat belts.

MAD
Friday, August 22, 20141:56 AM

Some people really lack the decency sometimes..
This is an hour I shouldn't be awake but here I am making a post complaining. Yes whining about people who don't contribute to GROUP work.

It's been a crazy week with tons of things due and whatnot. It just so happens that for one of my subjects, a proposal presentation was due on Tuesday(already done), and the written proposal due on Friday(today) and also a reflection essay due today too. After the presentation ok Tuesday, everyone said ok let's finish the written proposal tonight while it's still fresh in our minds. Yea right, that didn't happen. And then to make it worse, when I finally decided to have a look on Thursday morning, I texted everyone (5 people in the group including me) and 2 people actually said they forgot(don't know if they were being sarcastic or what) one didn't even reply and A helped out. I spent hours on it because this and the presentation together is worth 20%, no way am I going to burn that mark because of people who don't do work-.-so I started and finished at least half? The whole freaking day, one day before the due date, only 3 people ended up contributing to the report mostly me doing half and A doing the other half. The other person who helped was one of them who said they "forgot" but he just threw in stuff that he did before and really was not much help at the end trying to meet the word count. The other 2. WTH, one said she would add a reference tonight. WHERE. Me and A were on until at least midnight and she didn't even log on. And she's been the "leader" so far. And the other girl. Didn't reply didn't check or contribute to the document. Heck the only thing she contributed in the past 4 weeks that was useful was her presenting one slide for the presentation that was the requirement. The rest of the time, when she has said something, it isn't useful or has already been said before. We didn't get to choose our groups but wth, why am I doing all the work to get you a good score too. The other person who helped out a bit said to let the 'leader' girl check then we can submit. Wth, if she didn't even contribute, what's there for her to check. She isn't the boss to tick off and put her name on our work. Fine I understand she has been "leading" us so far but what she has done with the report isn't an example of leadership. Yea I agree this subject is driving everyone up the wall and we're all busy people but come on, we're studying the same things, you aren't more busy than I am, can't you people at least do SOMETHING?!! I always get a few terrible people to work with when it comes to allocated groups but thank God for the few that I know and can trust to do their work. For people who think their work will be done for them in group work, WAKE UP. No obe's going to do your work for you forever. At least this time with this subject we get to rate the members according to their contributions so these people better watch out. The 2 things I hate most in this kind of group things are 1) people being uncontactable and 2) not contributing but putting their name on the work anyway. Have the decency to only claim your own work as yours or something you have contributed. We're
Not your servants, we do it because our score is at risk too. No wah are we doing it for you. A mentioned that she didn't trust the other people to submit it tmr, and neither do I. Whether or not the 2 members really forgot about it and whether or not the other person even saw it(her last seen was 8.30pm and I sent the message in the morning..now what does that say), if they can forget or not care about something that has such a heavy weightage, I'm not going to trust the submission to them. Why should they. It's not even their contribution anyway. So what if they helped come up with the aim and all that. That wasn't the bulk of the report. Argh MAD.

Friday, August 15, 201412:27 AM

Have got Tablo's cover of Taeyang's Eyes, Nose, Lips on replay atm. So beautiful.

Anyway, I'll be going on rural placements in 3 weeks time for 3 weeks. I'm actually looking forward to it. There's some crap going on about getting there etc. because we haven't got a car. Initially I thought we could at least have 1 car so we can get there at least but now none of us can get a car so well, my parents can send me but not the others because..there are tons of stuff to bring. Stuff for 3 weeks, bed linen, blankets and pillows, if we're not renting a car then I'll probably bring my bicycle too. The accommodation is about 3.5km from the place I will be doing my placement at, and according to google, it's 40 minutes walk and 10 minutes cycle time so yea, not going to walk-.- the nearest train station from the accommodation is about 40-50 minutes walk so yea, my 2 other friends that are going with me..well if they're not renting a car then they'll be pretty stranded, unless they wait for a bus? I don't know. I think they're pissed though. Maybe at me or maybe at the situation of not having a car to get there and get to their workplaces. But it's not my fault E can't cycle and her mum doesn't allow her to take the car, and apparently the "three hour plus drive" is "insane" so she's not driving. I don't think J has a car but she can cycle so at least if we don't get a car then I can lend her a bike too and cycle to the placement place.(She didn't my text about it though? So idk) Whatever, maybe it's something I said but everything I said on the chat is the truth and are just suggestions. They have to come up with something themselves if not they'll just have to v-line it there and somehow make their way to the accommodation place. Maybe I can pick them from the station? Maybe. I don't know. Isn't exactly my parents' job to do such errands just because only MY parents are in Melbourne. Yes of course we should help if we can but we can't go overboard you know?  My dad's view is, you have a car, and you can drive, it's your problem if you don't use it, he's not a chauffeur, he doesn't have to send you all the way there. The best he can do is drive in front and you follow behind but if you want to make your own life difficult then there's nothing we can do. I've already suggested renting a car and all that and even checking prices. Not taking it, then fine. I'm going to be selfish here and say I can get there just fine, I don't exactly have to solve your transportation issues. I just hope this doesn't turn to a quarrel or anything because well..we will be living in the same house for 3 weeks together and if this turns to a quarrel, it won't be very comfortable now will it. And over such a trivial matter? Whatever, I'll leave you to solve the problem yourself. As long as someone can get there and get the keys in time, it's all good. Initially I thought this was going to be fun but now it seems like there's more trouble than fun coming this way. Bleh, whatever, tell me if you think I'm wrong about all this. Answers please someone! No one is talking to me lol, am I that annoying...
Anyway, good night!

Happy bday sg!
Saturday, August 9, 201411:12 PM

To all the patriotic Singaporeans out there,
HAPPY NATIONAL DAY!!
and to all the unpatriotic Singaporeans out there,
HAPPY NATIONAL DAY TO YOU TOO!!

Wow, just did a count and it's the 5th time I can't watch the ndp on my own television. Have watched the live broadcast 3-4 times now I think? I have to say, the quality of the live stream this year is so much better than last year's. Last year's kept getting cut off and hanging while this year, it got cut off once for mine but the rest ran smoothly.
Funny how I'm more patriotic when I'm not in sg. To me, I guess sg will always be home no matter what colour passport I hold. It's the place I grew up and fostered the many friendships. It's the place where I endured through hectic school and CCA and waking up in the wee hours in the morning. It has been a while since I've been back but nevertheless, I still think of sg as home. Every year, the thing that really warms my heart are the ndp songs. They add songs year after year but the old ones are still the best. It's the ones we grew up singing. Those are the ones that are really sung from the heart. I think after all these years, Home is still my favourite. Reach Out For The Skies is not too bad either, but somehow this one hasn't lasted the time. I think there were 2 new songs back in 2007/2008 that they tried to teach us in school during music lessons but I have no recollection on what their song titles even are..I really enjoyed the band music this year. I've never really noticed it previously but the band that played sounded so good outdoors. Anyone who has played in the open before will understand how hard it is to sound decent.
Anyway, Happy 49th Birthday SG! May you continue to prosper and grow like a ferocious lion.

It's here!
Sunday, July 20, 20142:51 PM

Whoo! I was talking about my online shopping order in my previous post, hoping that the delivery would be in the coming week. Well, my stuff's here! Got home from work just now and was told that I got my parcel already! Wasn't expecting it to be delivered today because well..how many people work on Sundays right. So, because I spent more than $100 (guilty spender here ahem...), I qualify for free express shipping which is estimated to take 3-5 days for delivery. Being a noob at all this online paying and understand the shipping stuff, I googled it and some people said that it's 3-5 working days and it doesn't include customs times and all that as 3-5 days is the transit time. My order was shipped on the 16th of July and arrived today so yea, it isn't 3-5 working days and the customs was really fast..for mine at least. Quite happy with what I got, except for one of the shirts maybe..can't decide if I like it or not now that it's arrived. It's a lot bigger than I expected so hmm.. Really happy with the rest of the stuff though! Ehehehehe, was happily ripping through all the packaging like a little kid at Christmas LOL. I have seen online that people get their orders in a nice white yesstyle box. Mine didn't come in a box though, but it was all still nicely contained in a bag with yesstyle printed on it. Not much to worry about your package being damaged because if the individual clothes aren't in plastic bags, they're wrapped in paper. I bought a pair of earrings and it came in a plastic bag in a bubble wrap pocket. Pictures hmm..I'll consider putting some up ;)
That's all for now hehe

Wednesday, July 16, 20142:05 PM

About time for a life update!
Well..I have to admit, I've been slacking at home doing nothing much and just doing whatever I want to. It's been a good holiday thus far after the exams ended. Results were supposed to be out on Monday but then it was out the night before. With fear and trepidation I checked it(LOL) but thank God I passed everything, did not too bad actually. The worst thing was that I wasn't even at home that Sunday night when the results came out. I was at a friend's 21st birthday party. Got a text from mum saying that her friend said results were out(lol trust my mum to tell me such things at such times). Of course who can resist knowing if they failed or not so I just checked it then and there and didn't die of a heart attack(hence my still being here). Talking about 21st..it really feels weird to have all your friends a year older. I mean, you don't realise it normally but when the birthdays come around, it just feels..different. I don't know, recently at work I feel like because I'm younger, I don't really know how to interact with people. Like, I don't really know what to say and how to say things. I just turned down a request for me to work from 9-5 on a Saturday(I usually work 9-1) because I have to attend a band recording from 2-5 elsewhere, but I feel bad..? Sigh, conscience. If it was a different Saturday, I would have accepted it but it's just this coming Saturday and the next Saturday I can't do. Ohwell, I can't take back what I said because anyway, it is true that I'm not available to do that long shift.

Anyway, I really haven't been doing much these holidays. Sleeping so much(hey sleep is a blessing), watching shows I really wanted to watch etc. Finished watching Doctor Stranger and hmm..it started out really well. The first few episodes were really good and then it got a bit messy. Happy ending is all that matters though. Wanted to watch Commitment but I can't find any links that have good subs. Watched Frozen this morning because..I have yet to watch it and everyone says it's good. Yea it was pretty good, I can see why it got quite famous. Currently watching Angel Eyes. Didn't exactly catch my attention as much as how doctor stranger did but it's not too bad. And then intersperse all this with weekly episodes of Running Man..yea you can see what kind of hermit I have become.
OHYES, I did one more exciting thing recently. I bought stuff from yesstyle, and I can't wait for my stuff to get here. Although hmm..2 items that I really wanted are not in stock and are not going to be stocked anytime soon so they were cancelled ): Sadly, those were the 2 that I was really looking forward to getting to wear. But I guess because it's still summer in Korea that's why they aren't being stocked. Looks like I'll have to wait till the end of the year to see if I can get a coat. Why get a coat online? Well, it is cheaper than things you can find here and it's so much easier to shop online. The stuff I ordered, mostly is from Korea because, I read online that although the stuff from Korea on yesstyle are more pricey, the quality tends to be assured so, hopefully that's the case. It's been a war trying to settle the payment crap though. Because I don't have a credit card, I signed up for paypal and paid by eCheque which takes about 1190320947 years to be cleared(ok I'm exaggerating-.-) I got mistaken and then sent a second payment and paid twice and gah, it just got so confusing but it's ok, they've refunded me the money back through paypal so all's good. I think. Sigh, maybe I should just get a credit card or something. Just for online shopping?!! I must be crazy haha. Anyway, I was looking forward to have the delivery sometime this week but I guess the earliest it's going to come will be next week so hm..more waiting. Alright, back to Angel Eyes. Btw, jiayou Miriam!! Haha have fun with your lesson!!

心里好不安

Tuesday, June 3, 20145:25 PM

Motivation to study : none -.-
I knew this would happened and I still let it happen anyway sigh. Exams start in a week but yet I don't feel that kick yet..one week later, every day in my head I'll be thinking SHIT. This will happen for sure lol, happens every time. Complacency isn't a good thing.
First exam's the tough one, after that it gets better so I guess if I can make it past the first one, I should be fine?

I realise I always blog when I'm mad or when I'm really bored with nothing better to do. Exactly the same reasons why I ever wrote in a paper dairy. Difference is..hand hurts less when you're typing out a long rant than when you're writing it out with pen and paper. Actually, what is it with people needing to vent their feelings somewhere. We're a very expressive species..maybe because it's human nature. To feel wronged, to feel we have the right to judge, to feel that we're the head of the pack maybe. Needless to say, of which I'm guilty too(ok maybe not the head of the pack, but the rest, I admit to). I was going to say animals don't do the same and bring others down to make themselves look better but then I realised some animals fight to their death to become the alpha male in the herd. Looks like nothing's innocent on this Earth eh? The oceans can drown, the earth can swallow, the animals can devour. Even the plants fight with each other for the right of..nutrients to grow. It's about the fight for survival on this Earth, both in nature and increasingly now in society.

Ok this post is going off in a weird direction, back to studying!

Friday, May 9, 20142:21 PM

For some reason..I'm so sleepy right now.
Got 3 lectures down, almost died listening to just 5 minutes of the 4th lecture. Going to try to finish it maybe a bit later.
Currently at state library, hmm seems my productivity levels are significantly highly than when I'm at home. Unless I'm having a good day at home of course.

Can't wait for what's going to happen later and over the next week. There goes my entire week without any studying(I have tests the 2 weeks after next week..) but I'm still looking forward to it anyway. Going to spend time with my bffs hehe, the last time we met up was at least 2 years ago.
Time flies and has not limits, sigh and we're all getting old haha. And with this age comes declining energy levels HAHAHHA. Excuses excuses.

Alright, enough procrastination. Have to study hard so that I can enjoy next week!!

Thursday, May 1, 201411:51 PM

Hoho it's been a long time since I've blogged eh ;)
Having your uni email as google linked isn't a good thing..every time I try to load the login page on the computer it automatically changes to my uni intranet login page..what is this!!

Update on life? BUSY.
I told myself I wouldn't let myself lag behind but this happens every single time. Once there's a test, I throw everything down and study for that test. Spent the 1 week holiday at work and doing assignments..didn't even get to arh up with lectures at all!! Now that I have something going on 2 weeks from now :O better start cracking sigh..

Alright short update from me for now

BULA VINAKA FIJI PT3
Thursday, February 6, 20143:09 PM

Alright I'm back again with another post. This one is kind of a jumble of everything I did for the second half of my week in Fiji.

After the previous 2 posts, you would now know that Fiji is a place people mainly go for the beaches and the weather so you must be wondering WHERE ARE THE BEACHES!

TBH, I only took pictures of the beach on the last few days and when we first arrived, it was sort of rainy weather so the river water caused the seawater to become a dirty greyish colour..not very attractive at all. Didn't manage to catch a nice sunset on camera so, apologies..without further adieu

Beach at the resort on a nice sunny day

You don't get much waves because of a breakwater
It's mostly just ripples haha

Kayaks are provided at high tide(in the morning)

Sunset. Sky was cloudy this day during sunset, so didn't manage to get a nice shot. This should..suffice?

See the clouds? This is the best I could do><

They had a weaving demonstration so the staff literally climbed a coconut tree there and cut down a whole leaf. Learnt to make a fish and watched the demonstrator make a hat and shopping bag.

Some merchandise some ladies sell at the lift lobbies

Last of all, don't you just love this clock? Haha saw it at the airport and..how appropriate eh?

One last short post coming after this one..maybe when I feel more..inspired haha.

CRAZY BULA TIME! FIJI PT2
Tuesday, January 28, 20143:45 PM

Bula bula! Haha it's been 4 days since I've got back but the Fiji spirit is still alive at home. I just realised and shall apologise for the extremely low quality photos I posted before..after all, they are from my phone so, can't really expect much eh?

Today's post will just be about Fiji Day 5.

We booked a tour to Robinson Crusoe Island(Likuri Island) the night before with the resort. They charter a bus for the resort guests to leave at 9.30am, head to a second resort to pick up more people and then head to a small jetty alongside the Tuva River where all the guests were split into 2 boats which we took to the river mouth where the Robinson Crusoe Island is located.

Nothing pretty about the river water..

Beautiful sky and weather that day though. The river is lined with mangrove swamps along the length of the river that we travelled.

A honeymoon place we passed by. The boats have to slow down here because the bank here is man-made and might collapse..

Another picture I took on the boat ride. See the surreal-looking mountains at the back?

Enough of river shots, here's the first view of Robinson Crusoe Island.

GREEEEEEEEN

Closeup of the island

Spot the 2 Fijian warriors? Lol they were throwing stuff at us haha

Docking soon

THAT COLOUR

The water park you can pay to use.
They provide kayaks and hammocks on the beach for free and you can also rent jet skis, or sign up for a spa session there.

Sheltered resting area

Preparing for pictures

We had a short briefing on the day's activities and schedule. Started off with a tour of the resort there

This is one of the bure

Inside the bure. Toilet is an outhouse, the toilet is nice though.

Snorkelling after the tour of the resort there. You can choose not to go snorkelling too and they have coconut husking and coconut tree climbing demonstration(yes, they climb up barefoot to the top of those coconut trees..)

Lovo lunch. Lovo is their traditional way of cooking in which they gather firewood, burn it, put stones on top, wait till the fire burns out and the stones are glowing, wrap the meat in coconut leaves, put them on the stones and cover everything with the coconut leaves. Ladies, if you're looking at the guy in the picture, all the men dressed like that on the island(they're all really muscular *winks ;)* )

Unearthing of our lunch

Fire-walking. Not all of them can do it because this is a gift that has been given to a certain tribe by their ancestors. It looks like nothing here but when you pour water on the stones, they  still sizzle and steam.

Here is the Lovo lunch, of which the fish and potatoes were cooked in the traditional way.

After the lunch, the staff put on a performance for us, with the traditional dancing, fire dancing and knife dancing.

First dance

More dancing

Intense fire dancing! They explained fire dancing wasn't their culture but instead it was Samoan, and they had someone come over to teach them.

Sorry, no pictures of the knife dancing but the entire performance was so entertaining and exciting. Everyone there had their phones and cameras out taking videos and photos haha. Kudos to the staff! The weather was really good but very hot so imagine them dancing with fire too, under that hot sun. Respect.

Went for a short bush walk to see some of the plants that are important to Fijians, in terms of their culture and also some medicinal herbs and stuff, no pictures here..

Turtle viewing(there's a secret we buried here ;) )

Track for crab racing

Let the race begin!

Then we had snake dancing where everyone was encouraged to form a circle and follow what one of the staff did which led to many funny and awkward movements hahaha. It was fun though(:
After that was farewell time and the staff sang farewell songs while we, the guests packed up and loaded everything back on the boats we came on. Back to the little jetty and back to respective resorts.

Headed out of the resort that night for dinner again. This time we went to somewhere nearer, an inn! No pictures because the lighting was really dim(ambience effect) to take any good photos, but I had spicy chicken with a passion. A really good dish I think! It tasted sort of like satay chicken sitting on a salad with a drizzle of passion fruit dressing. Really good(thumbs up!)

It really was a extremely fun-filled day, and even if I turned back the time, I would still choose to go there as compared to other tours. It was activity after activity, never a dull moment there. The staff seemed genuinely friendly in sharing parts of their culture with us(including the explanation of how Robinson Crusoe inhabitants were once cannibals and we would be their food once upon a time..). Likuri island was a special place for the Fijians, a sacred place in their culture. Very very fun, and money and time well spent in my opinion(lol of course I can say that because I only spent time, my dad spent the $$ haha><)

Alright, that's all for today(I knew this would fill up one whole post..)
Hope you've enjoyed the pictures and learnt that much more about Fiji!(:

BULA! SaRauta Mada, it's Fiji Time! FIJI PT 1
Sunday, January 26, 201410:18 AM

BULA! Literally meaning life, every employee greets you whenever you walk past with the blessing of a good life. I've really enjoyed my week there and so I'll share it with you now. (I'm not being paid, just sharing my experience)

Warning: It's going to be picture heavy so you have been warned..

Fiji is well, a place known to many Australians, and not at all known to most Singaporeans. Majority of the country's income is based on their tourism industry and Australians make up a majority of the tourists there. Everywhere you go, at least 50% of the tourists there are Australian. Fiji consists of a group of 333 islands and less during high tide. They have a population of not even a million people and they are located in the south pacific sea with tropical humid weather. It is their monsoon season at this time of the year, making it more humid. Their ancestors practised cannibalism but that clearly stopped and their dominant belief system is Christianity. The population there is pretty diverse, they have the natives, some Indians, some Chinese and Koreans(and I'm not sure what else). According to my parents, they are a third world country and on the way from Nadi airport to the resort, you can see the condition of the houses which most of the people are living in.

So, we booked a night flight, leaving on the night of the 17th and we arrived in Nadi(pronounced Nandi) at 6+ in the morning on the 18th(Saturday). It's a short flight of about 5 hours. Their daylight saving ended last week so their time is now only 1 hour ahead of Melbourne time. The flight itself wasn't that interesting..after all it was a night flight and we were meant to sleep. We took Fiji Air and their service staff was alright I guess, satisfactory but not excellent. The entertainment choice..was alright too, I plugged in the headphones, set up a playlist and let it run..while I slept so I can't really comment much on that can I? They had hunger games(the first one) but I've watched it before, and it's not really the kind of movie I would watch again even though it's good and also especially at that hour? No thanks. Haha. The humidity isn't as bad as Singapore I think, it doesn't slap you in the face once you step off the plane..

So we arrived at our resort a few hours later. I don't think I'll reveal the name now, but I might change my mind later..for now, let the picture overload begin! (:
The resort lobby where the workers will greet you with Bula! The men are in knee length..skirt(?) I don't know what they're called. A trio of 2 guitar players and 1 ukelele player singing welcomed us at the lobby while we went to check in. We were offered a drink and some cold towels smelling refreshingly of peppermint(sorry no picture of this)

Gorgeous view from the balcony at the lobby. Those hut things you see are called Bure(Bu-ray)!

They organise various activities for each day, some you have to pay for, some are free. It's all written on this colourful sheet about what activities are going on in the resort. It includes the high tide time and low tide times too.

After all this, finally heading to the room!
The beds
The balcony

The toilet

After throwing all the luggage down, we headed for breakfast buffet. Had some interesting stuff there, like papaya jam. Also tasted my first fresh passionfruit there too(so sour><) No pictures of the place or the food because..too busy soaking up the holiday spirit haha.

We headed for the beach and did some reef walking, saw a lot of fish and a blue starfish! Saw some long creepy things(possibly sea cucumber -not sure). Sorry..we only started taking photos toward the end of the week so I have a lot of missing pictures..and then we went to the pool which was super crowded. I think a lot of people left after that day though, because for the rest of my trip, the pool was never as full again..
We watched a bit of some of the activities like coconut throwing and melon cracking before we headed to the pool. Quite some fun it was, especially the melon cracking. They put a melon a distance away, blindfold the contestant, ask them where they're from and their name and how many steps they think they need and spin them 5 rounds. The participants are given a wooden..club(?) and are told to walk the number of steps they said they needed before they started. Then they get down on their knees, hit once each on the left, right and forward. If they hit and crack the melon, they win. Very entertaining and a lot of fun haha.

After a day mostly spent in the water, we went for dinner at the Asian restaurant in the resort. Like I said, everything was expensive but ohwell, first night. I think we had a little walk around the resort in the afternoon too, and also explored the outside by walking across the beach. SO HOT. I think that's why we went to the pool haha. Quite an eventful Day 1 eh?

Day 2, some enthusiasts we were, decided to turn up for an activity called power walk at 6.30am. Quite a walk! It's been a while since I've walked that fast and that far so..ahem haha. Nothing much on Day 2, beach, pool, and then had dinner at the western restaurant where they had a guy playing the guitar and singing songs, and then also a choir singing a few hymns(I think) for us. I do have pictures of this restaurant though, so here you go.
The chilled minty towels I talked about before. The bowl of beige colours stuff is actually salt flakes.

Focaccia

The choir warming up

View from the restaurant. The sea wasn't a brilliant blue because it rained a bit so..all the river water and stuff made it appear greyish

View at night.
The bill that night was..shocking, came up to a bit over $200 FJD

Day 3 nothing much too, mostly beach(kayaking in the sea), pool and then we had breakfast outside the resort. On the kayak, because the water is so clear, you can actually see fishes in the coral and so we saw these vibrant blue fishes, some purple ones, and a lot of other pretty stuff.

Day 4(Monday) was a bit more interesting. We called a taxi to take us down to Sigatoka(pronounced Singatoka) town and we just went around the town. Bought 5 papayas for $2 FJD, got some junk food, drinks, milo. Hopped off to the souvenir shop - jack's of Fiji (typical tourists) and got some sarongs and a dress. Had brunch in the town while we were at it. Since the first day, we didn't have breakfast in the resort, and we usually only had breakfast or brunch because..it was enough. Chinese food for brunch. Went back to the resort by the same taxi and got back around 1.30pm. Chilled in the air-con room until about 3.20pm before we headed down. My brother and I registered for a free diving lesson they had in the pool so why not? It's free haha. The basics aren't that hard, I thought it would be a lot harder actually, but it was fun :P They have a tennis court at the resort too so as long as you're wearing the right shoes, you can go play and borrow some balls and racquet from them. First time playing tennis, and well what can I say..I clearly don't have the talent for tennis LOL. Hit one ball out of the court into the bushes near the adults pool(oops) and couldn't find it(ahem ahem). Had dinner outside the resort, tried this dish called Kokoda. I believe it's a Fijian dish because I saw it everywhere after I had it that one time. It's cubes of fish with a salad of diced onion, tomato, cucumber(and perhaps more stuff), in a "soup" of coconut milk with a hint of lime. The first time I had it :OO So much salad, too much salad for me actually..it's meant to be an entree dish but it was well..too much for me even for dinner so haha. It was a good experience though.

Alright, that's it for the first half, more later!

FEE JEEEE~
8:11 AM

Alright, after one day of procrastination(amidst cleaning up the house and going grocery shopping..), it would be nice to see what I've been up to for the past week yes?  I mentioned I would be going away in my last post but didn't mention where, and so now, I'll tell you haha. I spent a lovely week in FIJI!! I'll probably need some time to sort and compile the photos we took from different devices so I'll most likely type up one entry first, and put in the photos I took with my phone, then I'll edit and maybe add in more pics taken from the camera. It's been such an enjoyable week, I'm already missing Fiji and the people there. I miss the night skies, the beach and the people..the resort was beautiful, food was..overpriced and expensive though :/ I can still close my eyes and see the place in my head now and hear the roar of the ocean. Beautiful beautiful place. Sigh..Fiji, you are missed.

Thursday, January 16, 20145:12 PM

Lol I say I'll do so many things but everything ends up nowhere..
Anyway, to finish the previous story, the woman said she was going to take the same train too but point is, she still had enough money on her card to tap on and get on the train, she didn't have to top it up there..she could have just let me go first because I'll just take like 1 minute and clearly her credit cards or whatever weren't working-.- Goodness..even thinking about all this again makes me fed up.

It's been a hot hot hot week in Melbourne, temperatures hitting over 40 degrees. Been chilling on the sofa in the living room right under the evaporative cooling vent because it's just so hot. Kudos to the tennis players playing in the Australian Open even with this heat. Even just stepping outdoors is enough to warrant groans and complaints haha. Ohwell, apparently it's going to cool down after tomorrow. Joke is, I'm going away tomorrow haha.

Had my first driving lesson this morning too. Seems like I'm almost ready to drive solo :OO Booked the driving test to be on 7 Feb which is..really soon. We'll see how that goes eh haha.

Thursday, January 9, 20149:55 AM

SO.MAD.
Because of this one lady, I had to risk taking the train without tapping my card. I risked paying hundreds of dollars of a fine just because 1) I can't be late for work 2) because said woman did not know how to top up her card using the machine and refused to let me go first.
This is kind of person, even if I came 10 minutes earlier before the train came o would still have to miss the train because of her.

So the full story is..
I had negative credit on my card so clearly I couldn't even tap on, so I had to top up and put some money in. Being in a rush, I decided to pay by cash because it's faster than paying by card and I already took out my card and money, all ready to top up my card which would take under a minute. Got to the platform and from the moment I heard the conversation between the woman and the platform inspector/manager, I knew I was screwed. There is only one top up machine at the station I go to and she just had to hog it. Tried one card and realised she couldn't sign, tried another card and it didn't work. And this people, she still had at least $6 in her card, she could still tap on and top up at where she was going to. So after waiting for her to try both cards..there was literally one minute left before the train came. Asked er nicely if she could let me go first because I had a train to catch and she was like oh yea, I have to catch that train too-.- I'll continue later

Wednesday, January 8, 20147:39 PM

Sigh..I've been going about blogger and google-ing for an hour now but I still can't figure out how I can get the music to play..I don't want to sign up for a dropbox account and upload some music files to the public domain..so frustrating :/ I don't know how to do this..html code is not something I know very well )):

6:22 PM

How's everyone's new year been so far? Mine's been alright I guess, could have been better, but life moves on.
Was going to change my blogskin again but meh..I have to say I quite like this current one, with the font and format and all. I shall try to fix the music thing on this after I finish this blog post.

I scrolled down to see some previous posts, just to reminisce a bit. I saw one saying that I would post more pictures so that..life would be more interesting haha. I apologise for breaking that agreement, lol it went on for a few posts and then I just stopped and this place just became somewhere for me to complain and whine about my life haha.

Alright, I will go try to fix the music, I promise..

Tuesday, December 31, 201311:06 PM

Lol okay, I shall eat my words..since today is the last day of 2013, might as well do some reflection right?
This year's gone by in a flash. This blog has come a long way, now that I think of it. It's contained a lot of my random moments, a lot of happy and sad moments, and now so quickly it has almost reached 6 years of existence. A quick check showed that this blog first started existing on the 26th January 2008, what a coincidence, it's Australia Day :D Thanks anyone reading frequently for enduring my countless rants and whatnots. Time has passed by so fast, so much faster than I would have liked it to go, but as they say, time waits for no man(such a cliched phrase but anyway). Like I said in my previous post, I'm not particularly looking forward to the new year, nor am I looking forward to the end of 2013, it's just another opportunity to reflect on what I have, and what I can give.  I've never really had any new year's resolutions well because..I'm not really one to set such goals and try to achieve them. Why not set them as an on-task basis and create goals along the way? Even if I have made new year resolutions in the past, I would have forgotten about them 2 weeks into the new year. So, not going to set any resolutions for this year. It's been a fast but crazy year, but I hope everyone has had a good year and have a year as good and if not better year starting tomorrow. Tomorrow is always a new beginning (:

12:08 PM

It's the last day of 2013, yet it's just another day.
Been going through a lot of rubbish for the past few months actually, it's just that I'm finally getting fed up and annoyed by it all.
To be honest, today is not any more special than any other day. To me, it's merely another day, another to live, another day to breathe, another day to be grateful for.
I can't wait to go away, 2 more weeks to going away and taking a break from this all.
Have a good day everyone, and despite what I've said about today being another normal day,
have a happy new year and a happy day today too!

Wednesday, November 20, 20136:35 PM

It was a PAIN trying to log into blogger just now.
My uni uses google mail as the official mail service and they just didn't allow me to log into blogger because it "wasn't supported". Had to go to my uni email, log in then log out then come to blogger and log in.

Anyway, my body clock's really off. Been sleeping at 12-ish then waking up at 7. The exam period has clearly messed it up. Been sleeping for 5 hours before the last 2 papers so that's probably why.

Now I have so much time on my hands, I don't really know what to do with it..During the exam period, there were tons of things to watch and tons of things to do other than studying. Now that I'm done, what happened to all that..ok to be fair I still do have videos that I want to watch but then because of the internet cap..It is best not watch so much now. I think we've already used 81% of our internet cap for this month so..while there still is some time before the month ends..might be safer to not endlessly click on recommended videos on youtube(you will seriously get stuck on youtube for hours if you do so).  I should start reading..hmm. Alright, I'll be back :P

Tuesday, November 19, 20137:04 AM

LIBERATION! Finally..
But I'm still up so early. Maybe because I've been sleeping for only 5-7hrs for the past week? Slept at 12, wake up at 7..
Want to sleep but can't. Sun's bright and early today. Tons of things I want to get done..
Alright, there'll be more later.

Liberation!..but not quite
Friday, November 15, 20137:13 PM

Just did a bomb of an exam.
FAR OUT
I'll be thankful to just pass seriously.
I have tried, I really have.
This exam period though, I just can't seem to study. Well, I can study but it's not processing very deep in the brain. It's like my brain has run out of memory space and I need an external hard drive or something.
Anyway, last paper next monday so more intense studying this weekend. Now is just a short breather before liberation next monday. I'm so sick of studying.
I don't even think it's possible for me to get 50% for this exam..not even 40 I think. I'm doing so badly this time round..darn. I'm just ranting right now because..1) I did terribly. 2) I woke up at 5 to study for this stupid exam this morning-.- should have slept more, the extra studying didn't even help.

Tuesday, October 29, 201311:04 PM

Screwed. Utterly screwed I tell you.

Supposed to start studying for exams today and here I was, rushing to finish up lectures. Listened to a whopping 8 lectures today..but I don't think I retained very much. I have NEVER been able to listen to this many lectures in one day. Desperate times call for desperate measures indeed.

There is a ridiculous amount of content for this semester's exams, I have no idea how I'm going to finish studying it all. There is just so much to study and so much application. Application meaning you have to know everything and when they throw a case study at you, you should be able to comment or suggest something. How in the world..

There isn't even one..simple topic. There used to be one that I wouldn't have to listen to lectures for..like the more common sense, social aspects, but then this term it's so much more. There isn't one that is common sense that I would complain is a waste of time. All of them start out ok and then the second half of the semester, it all just starts going CRAZY. GAHHH stress stress stress

Alright, going to sleep now, more craziness scheduled for tomorrow..wish me luck.

Tuesday, October 22, 20136:27 PM

I was wrong.
I am blessed.
Very very very blessed.
And I shall end it at that.

Gloomy weather, stuck at home finishing up tute preparation due tomorrow morning.
Bleh.

Anyway, today's topic.

"And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it me.'"
- Matthew 25:40

Why this topic? Well, I was walking outside melb central with my friend yesterday afternoon and there was this guy who was asking for spare change. It was raining and I was talking to my friend so well..I have to say I ignored him because tbh, I thought he was just taking shelter from the rain. It was only when we walked past him did ask for spare change. Walked past without a word, he said good day and apparently after, he said f*** you(I didn't hear this but my friend did). Thing is, he wasn't dressed terribly, he seemed pretty clean and he wasn't physically disabled. Surely he has the means to find a job so he doesn't have to..in nicer words, ask for spare change on the streets. If he does seem capable of supporting himself, why should I be giving him my spare change right? Spare change or not, money is money. All the money I have in my wallet now is what I have earned from working every Saturday. If I can do it, why can't he? Surely he has the capacity to. And eff me/us? We don't owe him a thing, on what grounds does he have the right to say that for not giving him spare change? Or was it because we didn't "Good day" him back? Is this just the easy way out for him? Yea, I guess we could have said something like Good day to you too back but then who know where that would end up. So in this situation, would I be wrong to just ignore him? In the past, when Jesus walked the Earth, the beggars he told people to treat well were physically disabled and unable to support themselves. They weren't clothed alright or physically able. If they were, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be on the streets. So did that guy deserve the way we treated him? Or was I wrong? Would he be considered a beggar, someone who is physically(and most likely mentally) able to support himself? And should he be treated the same way as someone else who is more in need?

Happy lonely birthday me yay..
Saturday, October 19, 201311:11 AM

Turning 19 on 19 October, yes that's today.
It's a mellow mellow day. Weather is really good, but here I am as usual at work indoors again.
To be honest, I'm actually quite disappointed. Never mind a gift, the number of people who remembered my birthday is..measly. Maybe I'm over thinking but seriously..some people I would expect a happy birthday from have not said a thing to me yet..maybe they really don't know):
Out of my friends in uni, only 1 remembered. There are 6 of us, mine is the last birthday in the year and I'm the youngest. Each of them got a birthday present from all of us..so I'm left out? Or do they just not know): they didn't know last year and I just got well wishes but that's alright. I just thought they would know this year and at least acknowledge it? Not a single squeak from the rest of them so far. Sigh..ironically it is the people furthest away from me physically who are the ones who remembered. Maybe it's just another day after all..): sigh..got work to do so..bear wth it then

Saturday, October 5, 20132:13 PM

Blogging again, this time to complain.

Anyone been to Straits of Malacca Hawthorn? If you haven't don't go. Their Glen Waverely counterparts are much better. Why?

Just got takeaway lunch from the Hawthorn outlet  and after this, I am NEVER going back again. Twice already that I got served by some rude girl. Mind you, these were 2 different occasions and 2 different girls, what does this say? Walked in, ordered my lunch and the girl was like "do you mind paying first" in a rude tone. I was holding my wallet phone and work key in my hand plus their super huge menu. You expect me to hold everything and give you money? Freaking take the menu from me! Gave her the menu first and she literally snatched it off and threw it somewhere. HELLO I AM FREAKING PAYING YOU MONEY THAT I WORKED AN HOUR FOR. THE LEAST YOU CAN DO IS BE NICE. I don't owe you a freaking thing. Thought I would drop by the supermarket across the road to get something while they're cooking. WHATTHEHECK, went back and had to wait another 10 freaking minutes before it was done. In total I probably waited more or about 15 minutes and this was takeaway-.- Even other customers got served their food first. What, I look young and don't deserve to get served? I have to rush back to work hello. Didn't even get a receipt so I can say that I ordered it. Anyway, when it came, girl asked something and I assumed it was about chilli because that's what they always ask about. I said no, checked my plastic bag and where in the world were my cutlery? AM I EXPECTED TO EAT HOR FUN WITH MY BARE HANDS? Asked the girl for cutlery and she scrunched up her face in an annoyed way and was like WHAT!? And then she finally got what I wanted and scowled. I AM A PAYING CUSTOMER AND THIS IS HOW YOU TREAT ME? So what if I'm not spending $100, any customer is a paying customer. I wasn't even demanding. The way they treat me is as if I'm not paying at all and eating for free or something. Ridiculous? You tell me. NEVER going back. No point having food from a place who doesn't appreciate the business. Absolutely rude staff, quality of food not consistent, it's not like I'm going to miss out on anything much . There is better food being sold ALL AROUND, I don't owe you a thing. Go on to urbanspoon and there you see all the good reviews written by..to be blunt, white people. Friendly staff, good service blah blah. WHERE? And then you see the reviews where people got lousy service by the staff and they are the Malaysians. Most of their business is from Malaysians and Singaporeans, so this is how it's going to be huh? See how long you'll last. STRAITS OF MALACCA HAWTHORN, don't head there, ever. Clearly, they don't really value their business, neither should you.

Wednesday, October 2, 20137:50 PM

I seem to have blogging spurts now and then where I blog so frequently and then it dies off for a month or so and then I decide to blog again.

On midsem holidays now, finally. Unfortunately, this holiday is all study and no play for me. Planned to finish catching up with all my lectures by today..of course it wouldn't be done, who am I kidding. Have to get some done tonight if not I really can't sleep tonight. I'm not complaining, after all it's my own fault that I have so many lectures outstanding. Alright, I probably should be started now. Procrastination now isn't going to help that either, might as well get started..

바보 처럼
Monday, September 9, 20135:01 PM

Life seems to be a huge chaotic mess atm. Hope everyone's alright! Spring's here, weather's beautiful. Take care!
